How can I find Safety Data Sheets? ›

You can get an SDS from: the manufacturer's website. the manufacturer, supplier or importer, if you ask for one.

Employers must ensure that the SDSs are readily accessible to employees for all hazardous chemicals in their workplace.

The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) requires chemical manufacturers, distributors, or importers to provide Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDSs) to communicate the hazards of hazardous chemical products.

According to OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, a chemical manufacturer or importer must provide SDSs to the distributer or employer prior to or at the time of shipment of the hazardous chemical.

Safety Data Sheets, Labels and other product tech sheets and literature are available upon request by contacting Customer Service at your local branch location. You can also visit manufacturer websites directly for immediate download.

Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) are required as part of the Institutions Safety Program to meet compliance with the both federal and state regulatory standards. If you cannot locate the manufacturer specific SDS, you can contact HSE to assist you in obtaining the information.

If you supply, use or store hazardous chemicals, you must keep copies of the SDS in your workplace. If you manufacture or import chemicals, you are responsible for making a correct SDS for each hazardous chemical.

Any MSDS would be accessible via the INTERNET simply by typing the address from the label. The postings could be at any address such as the manufacturer's home page or the site of someone providing this service.

The Hazard Communication Standard requires chemical manufacturers/importers to obtain, develop, and maintain safety data sheets (SDSs). This goes for every hazardous chemical they produce or import. They must also provide the SDS for distributors and employers.

SDSs can't be stored behind a locked door that only certain people have access to, or in a box on the wall with a lock on it, or with a supervisor that you have to ask permission to get to them, or in an electronic system that's so password protected that no one can get to them, or so borrowed in an electronic system ...

It is recommended that SDSs are maintained in a hard copy log format which includes all applicable chemicals in that particular workplace. Multiple logs or additional copies of SDSs may be necessary to ensure that all employees have access to the information.

Any product that is considered a hazardous chemical requires a safety data sheet. A hazardous chemical, as defined by the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), is any chemical which can cause a physical or a health hazard. This determination is made by the chemical manufacturer, as described in 29 CFR 1910.1200(d).
