Is 1 hour of drawing practice enough? ›

Tiring: Too tiring to be done sustainably over the long run for more than a few hours a day. Beginners should start drawing with one hour and gradually work up to more. At the peak of their abilities, expert performers only do about four hours of practice a day.

Some may want to draw 20 minutes while others 2 hours or even all nighter. If you wanna progress fast (even if you have a busy shedule, a family…), do not focus on HOW LONG you need. But draw as long as your heart tells you to. That way, sketching is going to be your lifestyle and be part of your daily routine.

Art students who would like to become fine artists, start their art education in art schools from the age of 9 or 10. By the end of this school, which takes 4 to 5 years, they have very good drawing, painting, decorative arts, composition, and sculpting skills as well a firm knowledge of the history of arts.

Keep in mind; the more regularly you draw the easier you are likely to find warming up. Try challenging yourself to do this, drawing once every day. Even if it's only for a very short time you'll likely begin to see and feel a difference in your drawing as a result!

Get up earlier. In the spirit of Danny Gregory's Art Before Breakfast, set your alarm for 30 minutes earlier than normal. Sure, you're trading some sleep, but getting an extra 30 minutes of drawing time in before the rest of the world wakes up is invaluable!

Absolutely. For most people four hours would be plenty. If you can draw for six hours without getting tired and losing your focus the next day, then great! It's more important to be able to practice for five days a week, than to do a marathon on a single day.
